We are a Montreal-based award-winning film and television production company and are offering a paid internship for a local BIPOC community member who would like to train as a researcher / writer on a factual 6-part, 60-minute true-crime series. This is a great opportunity and learning experience for anyone who is already studying or working in film and television, or journalism — especially those who aspire to work in the documentary genre.

The intern would work with Story Producers and assist them in their jobs finding stories, creating timelines for story events, sitting in on pre-interviews, taking notes, ordering police reports and court exhibits, learning how to create research reports, sourcing relevant articles and archival elements to help tell the stories, etc.

The position is being offered to members of equity-deserving groups only. The candidate must be Montreal based, and have excellent English writing and speaking skills.

Priority will be given to those studying or working in the field of television, film, and / or journalism.

Schedule: Ideally starting May 5; 10-12 weeks, part time, 2-3 days per week.

Main Responsibilities

Qualifications
 Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in broadcasting, journalism,
communications or other related fields;
 Be eligible for university credit for this internship;
 Be seeking a placement under a formal, credited internship program;
 Be available weekdays or weekends for day/evening shifts;
 Excellent command of written English and the ability to speak/read both English and French;
 Highly motived with proven multi-tasking and time management skills. Able to work in a fastpaced environment;
 Experience posting to various social media platforms; and
 Basic knowledge of video editing and TV production experience will be considered assets

Internship Summary

The Rover is looking for a production assistant to join us for a 120-160 hour internship starting May 1st.

As production assistant, you will work remotely for the most part with some meetings and trainings at our office near Loyola campus. You’ll work alongside The Rover’s editors and freelancers to prepare articles for publication by copy-editing, fact-checking, and uploading content on our content management system and email service provider. You’ll also have the opportunity to produce at least one feature story with coaching from Rover editors, and social media content as desired. An honorarium will be provided. This post is ideal for students with strong writing skills who are interested in working in independent media, drawn to community and/or investigative reporting, and ready to take on new challenges in a dynamic work environment. 

Main Responsibilities

• Assist with copy-editing and fact-checking;
• Build and post articles on our website and through our email service provider;
• Contribute at least one article to the publication, with coaching from us;
• Assist with social media content production;
• Other tasks related to content creation and promotion as they arise.

Qualifications

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in journalism, communications or other related fields;
• Be eligible for university credit for this internship;
• Be seeking a placement under a formal, credited internship program;
• Be available to meet at our office near Concordia’s Loyola Campus for training;
• Have a good command of English and functional command of French;
• Be interested in working in independent media.
