Carbon Paper Newsletter student job position available / Papier carbone ouvre un poste étudiant à temps partiel

Are you an undergrad student interested in environmental and climate change journalism, and you’re able to write and edit in both French and English? Carbon Paper/Papier Carbone, the bilingual climate change journalism newsletter, is looking for a bilingual research assistant to fill a position of web editor and writer. Established in 2022, the newsletter highlights the best Canadian environmental and climate change reporting and scientific contributions in the field of climate communication research. Working under the supervision of Associate Professor Amelie Daoust-Boisvert and alongside of coordinator and MA student Brianna Losinger-Ross, your role would be to assist in the planning, writing, editing, translating and publication the 2024–2025 editions of the monthly newsletter. 

Conditions 

  • This role is part time, 10 hours per month from October 1, 2024, to April 15, 2025; 
  • Probation/essay period of one month.  
  • Remote work only; 
  • Requires occasional Zoom meetings (around one per month) to discuss and plan content; 
  • As this contract falls under the CREW union, benefits will be offered according to the union agreement. 

Requirements 

  • Journalism experience, such as having stories published in student media. 
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English and French with a good ability to translate from one to the other.  
  • Good organizational skills and ability to respect deadlines and a determined publication workflow.  
  • Interest for climate change and environmental issues.  

This is a great opportunity to add stories to your portfolio, get editing experience and familiarize yourself with the Canadian climate reporting landscape and research in that area.

Hiring: BIPOC Youth Journalism Fellow (Ku’ku’kwes News)

Ku’ku’kwes News is partnering with Journalists for Human Rights to offer a fellowship position for reporters who identify as members of a First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit community, Black and/or other racialized community. This is an exciting opportunity for a BIPOC youth to gain valuable experience as a multimedia journalist. Ku’ku’kwes News is the only independently-owned news website that exclusively covers Indigenous news in Atlantic Canada. 

POSITION: Journalism fellow 

POSITION TYPE: Temporary part-time, contract ASAP – January 17, 2025

LOCATION: Remote in Canada, must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador residents preferred. 

SALARY: $25.25/hr, minimum 15 hours per week

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Researching, pitching and covering original news stories 
  • Covering assigned news stories
  • Producing digital journalistic content (written content, photos and video)
  • Editing material for use on digital platforms (website, social media)
  • On occasion, editing stories written by colleagues.

The fellows will report directly to Maureen Googoo, owner/editor of Ku’ku’kwes News and will benefit from her mentorship and guidance as a veteran journalist and entrepreneur.

These are some criteria that will be considered to result in a successful application.

Experience

  • A university degree or equivalent in journalism with proven experience in writing news for a digital publication (degree can be in progress)
  • Experience in gathering digital news content (photos, audio and videos) for publication
  • Previous experience in working in Indigenous communities and/or Indigenous organizations

Skills

  • A self-starter who is confident in working remotely and independently
  • Excellent written, photography and video skills
  • Editing and preparing written content, photos and video for publication
  • A keen interest and curiosity in Indigenous news
  • Strong ability to articulate and explain issues relevant to Indigenous communities
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of digital news technology
  • A valid driver’s licence

Emploi: Journaliste pour ‘Mon Mile End’

Contribuez au retour du journalisme local sur le territoire du Plateau-Mont-Royal.

Dans le cadre de l’Initiative de journalisme local (IJL), le média numérique Mon Mile End est à la recherche d’un.e journaliste pour couvrir l’actualité dans les différents quartiers du Plateau-Mont-Royal : le Mile End, Milton Parc, le Petit Laurier et le secteur Plateau Est.

Il s’agit d’un poste contractuel à temps plein (40h/semaine) rémunéré à 24$/h sur une période de 7 mois (jusqu’au 31 mars 2025), avec possibilité de renouvellement. Nous offrons la possibilité de travailler en mode hybride.

Responsabilités

  • Rédiger 5 à 7 articles par semaine sur des sujets portant exclusivement sur les affaires municipales et civiques de l’arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal.
  • Couvrir les nombreuses institutions civiques du Plateau-Mont-Royal telles que la mairie, les écoles, l’Hôtel-Dieu et les CLSC, le poste de quartier 38 du SPVM et les organismes locaux qui offrent des services de proximité.
  • Couvrir les enjeux socio-économiques qui touchent le territoire du Plateau-Mont-Royal tels que la montée de l’itinérance et les mesures mises en place pour lutter contre celle-ci, la protection du parc locatif, l’état et la transformation des infrastructures sportives et culturelles ainsi que des espaces verts de l’arrondissement.
  • Établir des contacts locaux et faire des suivis réguliers sur les dossiers pertinents.
  • Proposer des sujets à explorer, toujours en lien avec le territoire du Plateau-Mont-Royal.
  • Respecter les critères de l’Initiative de journalisme local (IJL) ainsi que les normes d’éthique et de déontologie journalistique.

Votre profil

  • Vous habitez le territoire du Plateau-Mont-Royal.
  • Vous avez une formation en journalisme et/ou de l’expérience de travail en journalisme.
  • Vous faites preuve d’autonomie, de flexibilité, de curiosité, de rigueur et d’un bon sens de l’organisation.
  • Vous avez une excellente maîtrise du français et bonne connaissance de l’anglais.
  • Vous avez un intérêt marqué pour le journalisme local et communautaire.
  • Vous voulez contribuer à l’essor du journalisme de proximité à Montréal.

Radio Victoria, la seule radio communautaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, est à la recherche d’une personne ayant à cœur de s’impliquer dans la communauté francophone à travers le développement d’un média communautaire en occupant le poste de direction de la programmation.

Premier point de contact avec les bénévoles et la communauté francophone, la direction de la programmation est responsable de gérer la grille des émissions de Radio Victoria, travailler avec nos partenaires, former et accompagner les bénévoles, et appuyer la direction générale dans le développement de la radio.

Détails du poste 

Date d’entrée en fonction : 27 août 2021.

Type de poste : permanent, 35h par semaine.

Salaire : 40 000$, avec assurances maladie après la fin de la période de probation.

Qualités requises :

-Expérience en production et animation radiophonique

-Capacité à gérer plusieurs projets en autonomie

-Connaissance des logiciels de montage audio (Audacity, Audition) et de la plateforme WordPress

-Excellente maîtrise du français, à l’oral et à l’écrit

-Bonne maîtrise de l’anglais

-Bonne maîtrise des médias sociaux

-Connaissance des programmes de Radio Victoria

Responsabilités :

-Établir et maintenir des partenariats avec d’autres radios communautaires pour la diffusion de contenus pertinents

-Appui à la direction générale pour le développement de la radio
