The Open Notebook: Early Career Fellowship Program

The Open Notebook offers a paid, part-time fellowship program for early-career science journalists. During this remote, part-time fellowship, each fellow will pitch, report, and write articles for publication at The Open Notebook.

Some training and/or experience in writing for the general public is a requirement for this fellowship, but science journalists (or aspiring science journalists) must have fewer than three years of regular professional science writing experience.

Winter internship at the Suburban

Organization: The Suburban Newspaper

Location: 7575 TransCanada Highway, Ville Saint-Laurent

When: Winter 2025

Duration: 160 hours – Internship for credits!

Deadline: November 15, 2025

Internship Summary:

The intern will have a chance to work on content for all departments at The Suburban Newspaper, going out on assignment with a variety of writers. This includes news, features (arts and entertainment), sports, web (blogs), art production and design, and video features. Interns will take on assigned work as well as come up with original story ideas and content. Regular meetings will be held at the office, but some work will be done independently as well.

Main Responsibilities:

The main duties include writing for the print newspaper as well as The Suburban’s website. It will also entail working on video content with the video editor (streeters, etc.), helping with social media, periodically sitting in during weekly newspaper layout, and observing departmental meetings.

● Interview with three artists/art instructors (Atelier de Brésoles Founder, a university
professor, a self-taught artist).
● Approx 1500 words for a Canadian Art Publication
Experience:
● Have experience in communications, blogging, journalism
● Ideally, have a background or interest in Fine Art, Art History.
