CBC News Summer Internship and Info Session

CBC is proud to offer the CBC News Summer Scholarship in memory of Joan Donaldson and Peter Gzowski to aspiring journalists from across the country in 2027. The four-month, in-person program provides valuable hands-on experience in multiplatform news environments.

We are pleased to share with you the details of the scholarship and the application process. You’ll find all the information about the program, placements and process on our website. Applications will be accepted from October 14, 2026 to November 1, 2026.

We’re offering a virtual information session for interested candidates to ask questions about the program. It will be held on October 27, 2026, at 6 pm ET. To receive an invitation to the session, candidates can email newsscholarship@cbc.ca.

The scholarship is open to graduating students in their final year of study at any post-secondary institution in Canada. Formal journalism education is not required, but candidates will need to demonstrate journalism skills and experience (for example, working at a campus news organization). We strongly encourage applications from candidates from all disciplines, backgrounds and locations across Canada to apply.

The four-month program is designed to give high-potential emerging journalists experience in both CBC News’ national programming units in Toronto, as well as regional newsrooms across the country, setting them up for potential employment at CBC in the long term.

In May and June, scholars will be placed with a national program or network unit in Toronto, then in July and August, scholars will be placed in a regional station around the country.

During the application process, candidates can indicate their preference for placements. For those who are selected for the program, CBC will strive to align placements with candidates’ top choices. However, due to the competitive nature of the program, we cannot guarantee placement in a preferred unit or location.

Additionally, you will see that during the first step of the application process, candidates will need to provide the name of a reference who can speak to their journalism skills.  Should the candidate proceed to the next step, the referee will need to fill out a short recommendation form.

If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to reach out to us at our program email address: newsscholarship@cbc.ca.
